When starting a new business, there are many things you need to take into consideration.
What accounting package shall I use? Do I need a customer database (CRM)? amongst others. It can be overwhelming as well as expensive if you don’t take the time to think about what you’ll need in your business.
We’ve chosen 7 free apps, which we currently use and hope you find them useful too.
1. Wave – Accounting Software
If you hate recording expenses and keeping tabs on your spending in Excel, then take a look at Wave. This free accounting software allows you to create your own professional invoices and track payments, as well as being able to sync to your bank account in order to manage your book keeping. It’s also available as a handy app for iOS and Android, which helps you keep track of how you’re doing. The system will automatically alert you if invoices are overdue!
2. Trello – Organisational Tool
We’ve been fans of Trello for a number of years now. It’s simple to use and will help you to visually keep track of projects and your ‘to do’ lists. Invite team members to comment and collaborate and stay organised. The app is also available on iOS and Android.
3. Capsule CRM – Online Database System
Capsule is free for up to two users but it’s made the list because of the simple interface allowing you to store all of your contact information in one place. If your contacts use social media, you can pull their information including profile pictures as well as their tweets! The tool will also integrate with MailChimp and Google Analytics and is available on iOS and Android.
4. Hootsuite – Social Media Management
Hootsuite continues to be a strong favourite amongst marketers and it’s easy to see why. You can manage all your social media activity from the Hootsuite Dashboard.

Need to create eye catching designs for your social media posts or flyers? If you’re on a tight budget, then Canva is the tool for you. With hundreds of templates to choose from Canva makes design easy.
Whether you need to edit a photo or create a Facebook cover photo, using Canva’s built in templates it’s now easy to do.
6. Zoom – Video & Web Conferencing
Zooms makes hosting a meeting professional yet simple. The free account allows you to schedule unlimited 1-1 meetings and up to 40 minutes for group meetings. Use your PC or smart phone to start/join a meeting. Zoom allows you to screen share, use instant messenger with your attendees as well video conferencing. The tool also has a free integration with Microsoft Outlook making meeting requests appear professional. Attendees can then link directly to your Zoom room without the need for pin numbers.
7. WiseStamp – Free Email Signature Generator
